How Much Does Bin Rental Cost?

The short answer: a dumpster bin rental in Guelph and surrounding area costs $460 (10-yard), $500 (15-yard) or $540 (20-yard) plus HST on a 5-day rental if you go through Guelph Dumpster Rental — flat rate, all-inclusive of delivery, your rental days, 1 tonne of disposal, and pickup. Our rates (2026)

All three rates include: delivery, your rental days, 1 tonne of disposal, and pickup. There's no separate fuel charge, no mileage surcharge, no minimum-rental clause, no environmental fee. Same rate across our entire service area: Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Milton, Fergus, and Elora.

Heavy materials — the one place price varies

Some materials are dense enough that landfills/transfer stations charge more for them. We pass that through — but we quote it before delivery, so you know the full price up front. Heavy materials in our market:

• Roofing shingles — quoted per tonne, depends on roof size. A typical residential tear-off lands around $150–$300 in shingle disposal on top of the bin rate.
• Concrete and brick — driveway breakup, walkway demo. Quoted per tonne.
• Fill dirt and soil — landscaping waste. Quoted per tonne.
• Tonnage overage on mixed loads — if your load goes over the included tonne, the extra weight is billed by the tonne at the disposal rate. Ask for the current number when you book.

What you should compare when shopping bin rental

Bin rental pricing in Ontario varies more than you'd think. Three pricing models you'll encounter:

1. Flat-rate (what we do)

One price, everything included up to a generous weight limit. Heavy materials quoted separately upfront. Easy to budget. Easy to explain to a contractor. The headline price is the price.

2. Weight-based

A "low" headline rate (often $99–$129) plus per-tonne charges for everything that comes out of the bin. A typical residential cleanout is 1–2 tonnes, so the real cost usually lands at $450–$700+ once the weight is billed — and you don't find out until after pickup. Our rate isn't always the lowest number on the page, but it's the number you actually pay: the bin, the delivery, the rental days, the pickup and the first tonne are all in it, and anything over that tonne is quoted before the bin is dropped. Worth asking any company explicitly: "What's the per-tonne overage rate, and what's included?" before booking.

3. Tiered or "size + days + weight" models

Bin size × number of days × estimated weight. National chains often use this. Cheaper for very small loads, more expensive for everything else. Painful to budget because you can't predict the bill until pickup.

Our take: we tried weight-based pricing in earlier ventures and our customers hated the surprise bills. Flat-rate is simpler, friendlier, and cheaper for most actual jobs. The few customers who'd save money on weight-based are the ones loading mostly cardboard and clothing — and they save maybe $20.

Hidden costs to watch out for

When comparing rental quotes, ask explicitly about each of these:

• Fuel surcharge — some companies tack 10–15% onto the headline rate.
• Mileage / zone fees — added when your address is "outside the core zone." For us, the entire service area is one zone.
• Environmental / disposal fee — sometimes 5–10% added for "regulatory compliance." We bake this into the flat rate.
• Per-day rental beyond the included period — most companies include 7 days. We include 14. Beyond 14, we work with you on extensions rather than charging by the day.
• Same-day or short-notice delivery fee — some companies charge a premium. We don't (if we have capacity).
• Permit fee — only relevant for street placement, which we don't do (driveway-only).
• Cancellation / change fee — varies. Ours is none, as long as you call before the truck leaves.

Budgeting for renovation projects

Kitchen renovation

Typical kitchen demo + reno fits in a 15-yard bin. Drywall, cabinets, flooring offcuts, packaging from new appliances. Budget: $500 + HST for a single bin, possibly two if you're tearing out a lot of tile.

Bathroom renovation

A single bathroom usually fits in a 10-yard. Two bathrooms together — go 15-yard. Budget: $460 + HST for one bath, $500 + HST if combining.

Basement finish

15-yard, sometimes two depending on size. Drywall, framing offcuts, packaging, old carpet if you're tearing up before finishing. Budget: $500 + HST per bin.

Roof tear-off

15-yard for shingle disposal. Shingles are quoted separately (call us with your roof size). Budget: $500 base + $150–$300 shingle disposal for an average residential roof.

Garage / basement / yard cleanout

10-yard handles most. Bigger cleanouts (decades of accumulation, full property) → 15-yard. Budget: $460–$540 + HST.

Estate cleanout

When NOT to rent a bin

If your project produces less than half a pickup truck of waste, a bin is overkill. Better options:

• Curbside collection (within City limits) for normal household waste
• One-time large item pickup (most municipalities offer this)
• Trip to the local transfer station with your own truck — under $30 in tipping fees for most loads
• Junk removal services if it's mostly furniture and you don't want to load yourself (typically $400–$600)

A bin makes sense from about half a 10-yard up — anything below that, easier alternatives exist.

Questions worth asking any bin company

When calling around, three questions cut through the noise:

1. "What's the all-in price for a typical residential cleanout?" — flat-rate companies will give you a single number. Weight-based companies give a range.
2. "How long is the rental period included in that?" — 7 days is industry-typical. We do 14.
3. "What materials are extra?" — every company has heavy materials priced separately. The honest ones tell you upfront.
